TidbiT SonoS is the newly built recording studio of Grammy Award wining New York/Philly-based composer, musician, producer, engineer and educator, Anthony Tidd.
Originally born in London-England, Tidd came to Philadelphia in 1999 in response to an invitation extended by the soon to be massive hip-hop collective, The Roots.
Upon his Philly arrival Tidd joined the Roots’ collective and was immediately put to work by the late great Richard Nichols (manager of The Roots) on a variety of projects. These projects involved collaborations with The Roots, Erykah Badu, The JazzyFatNastees, Kindred, Common, Musiq Soulchild, and a host of other artists on the then Philly scene.
Tidd built his first American studio in a South Philly row-home he rented back in 1997. From a young age he had a great love for the entire recording and mixing process, and all that went with it; Vintage gear, the latest technologies, tracking, mixing, mastering, editing, studio design, construction, and acoustic treatment.
By 2004 Anthony had built his second studio in the Art Museum area, worked on over 80 different projects, produced for 40 to 50 artists, and had also worked alongside revered recording engineers including Dave Ivory (Sigma Sound), John Smeltz and Jeff Chestek (Larry Gold’s The Studio), Axel Niehaus (Sony Studios, New York) and Bob Powers (The Power Plant, LA).
As co-founder of the production collective Noize Trip, along with Melvin “Chaos” Lewis, Tidd spent the next seven years in his third studio, based at Larry Gold’s, working on a number of multi-platinum projects for staple artists including The Black Eyed Peas, Macy Gray, Pink, Lady Gaga, and Fergie, to name a few.
TidbiT SonoS, the realization of Tidd’s latest studio construction project, is located in the heart of Brewerytown, Philadelphia. It’s a fully equipped 32 input Pro Tools HDX studio with two separate tracking rooms, equipped with a grand piano, drums/percussion, vintage keyboards, guitars and basses, a selection of amps, a well stocked mic closet, the latest computer based plugins, fully analogue mastering capability, high quality monitoring and an acoustically tuned control room.
The studio was designed and built by Tidd and his longtime friend Dan “Danophonic” Raaf into the basement of a newly refurbished large 1900s Brewerytown home, which Tidd bought and modified specifically for the purpose. This space was designed as the ideal place where he could produce his own projects, as well as those he works on for select clients, ranging from jazz quartets, string quartets, to hip-hop artists, or vocal projects, from inception to completion, with an emphasis on tight tracking acoustics and an ideal mix environment.
